Manual lymphatic drainage
Drainage massage specialist, Nottingham and Birmingham.
Cosmetic surgery — liposuction, a tummy tuck, a BBL or any other body contouring procedure — usually creates pooling of excess lymphatic fluids. This results in swelling and discomfort for the patient, and bruising as the tissues heal.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialized massage technique that is recommended by plastic surgeons, after cosmetic surgery, to accelerate the recuperation period.
The science behind why this massage works is fairly simple. Stroking the areas of the body that process the lymph fluid, and the lymph nodes, causes the fluid to drain.
MLD is offered at both of our clinics, in Nottingham and in Birmingham, and clients travel to us from across the Midlands.
Swelling and bruising after surgery
Swelling and bruising are a normal response to surgery as your body begins to heal. Your lymphatic system helps clear excess fluid from the tissues, but this process can feel slower while the area is swollen and tender.
Post-operative lymphatic drainage is a gentle technique that aims to support the movement of this fluid and ease the feeling of tightness and discomfort. Deep Oscillation® therapy normally follows a full drainage treatment, and is used to help with the appearance of bruising.
How soon you can start depends on the procedure you have had, so check the timing with your surgeon first.
